Q: What is Tailwind Storage’s SSD and hybrid storage solution?

A: Most of today’s computer-intensive services, including finance and gaming, require a large amount of storage space. Whether a company is offering email services, business data storage, web servers, or cloud computing services, it all requires a tremendous amount of data storage. Additionally, today’s data storage infrastructure is complex, creating challenges in fundamental areas such as heat dissipation and power consumption. The management of a reliable data storage environment can be difficult but Tailwind Storage’s solution, the Hybrid Semiconductor Storage Device (HSSD), is 100 times faster than HDD, uses less energy, generates less heat, and is physically smaller than existing solutions. It is simply an improvement in all aspects from traditional data storage equipment.

Q: How does it work?

A: Our technology is a melding of the best of semiconductor memory DDR RAM with solid state flash drives. Reading speeds on solid state drives are fast, but writing speeds are much slower. The enormous amount of RAM provides a large buffer that works in tandem with the solid state drives, providing huge speed boosts and power savings. Fast memory and storage is needed to handle media, but the current hard drive solutions on the market cannot handle streaming data as fast as the devices demand it. Our hybrid SSD will allow businesses to handle more streams of data with a smaller footprint.

A: Tailwind Storage is targeting applications that require fast access times, including Internet “search and delivery”. Our technology provides service several magnitudes faster than the current technology. Additionally, our SSD technology is targeted to the finance market, where faster access of data is critical.

Q: How does this affect our data center footprint?

A: Tailwind Storage’s equipment is smaller but has equal storage capacity as existing solutions on the market today. Therefore, our footprint will be 1/6 the current amount with equal performance. That means that our SSD devices use significantly less power and require less space.
